New Ealing Police Chief
Ealing has new Borough Commander, Chief Superintendent Andy Rowell. He spoke at the ECPCG meeting this week. Having lived and worked in Ealing for many years, he knows the Borough well and acknowledges the challenges he faces, in particular the large increase in street robberies. He has clear ideas on policing, expecting his officers to be proactive, firm and fair and proud of what they do. He is obviously a people person and a straight talker, recognising the cycle of crime around drugs and alcohol and the importance of officers being out and about. He has already cut back the paper work for SNTs and halved the number of meetings. He believes that ASBOs are just one tool in reducing crime and said that Ealing has no plans to cut the numbers of Police. The financial squeeze will force different agencies to cooperate. In all, a promising start.
EALING Council also has a new Chief Executive, Martin Smith.
